Reclamation and refurbishment of the outdoor learning area were the main goals for this grant. West Elementary received $10,000 to be used in getting this area of campus back to a usable, sustainable, and educationally conducive environment. Excavating equipment was used to remove the crumbling sidewalk and level the outdoor classroom area. The rotten and damaged roof on the outdoor classroom structure was repaired and a new metal roof added. Numerous trees were trimmed to provide visibility and shaded learning station opportunities. Grass was planted on project areas to replace weeds, vines, and saplings. Finally, a cement sidewalk was poured to connect all of the new and reclaimed learning station areas to the existing sidewalk extending from the school building.
